Reeds are made of natural material which is very fragile. Some people seem to break them after soaking in warm tea, but this is not a defect unless there is sound leakage. Please be careful.

A hichiriki reed (ro-zetsu) is a natural reed and is a consumable part of the instrument. Its lifespan varies depending on how often and how long it is played, as well as the individual characteristics of the reed.
There is no fixed replacement period. We recommend replacing the reed when you notice changes such as:
Even if the reed is not visibly damaged, its playing characteristics can gradually change with use. For consistent performance, it is a good idea to keep a spare reed and replace the current one when its response or sound quality begins to deteriorate.
